Toyota Hilux

The ninth-generation Toyota HiLux arrives with a serious dose of modern tech while keeping the toughness that’s made it a favourite for decades. This double-cab pickup now offers two electrified options: a full battery-electric model with dual motors producing 193 hp, and a 48V mild-hybrid diesel that pairs a 2.8-litre turbo engine with an electric motor for a combined 201 hp and 500 Nm.

Built on a sturdy body-on-frame platform, the Hilux is capable off road, with 212 mm of ground clearance and a 700 mm wading depth. The BEV version delivers an estimated 240 km (150 miles) of range and comes with all-wheel drive, though its payload drops to 715 kg compared with the diesel’s 1,000 kg rating.

Inside, you get dual 12.3-inch digital displays and wireless smartphone integration, while Toyota Safety Sense and Multi-Terrain Select add confidence on and off the road. From the no-nonsense WorkMate to the plush Invincible X and the tougher Rugged X, there’s a trim to suit most needs.

Both left-hand and right-hand drive versions are being built, making it an easy fit for a wide range of import markets. Suspension tuning has also been refined to improve day-to-day comfort without sacrificing the Hilux’s well-earned reputation for capability in tough conditions.
